Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 October 2026
Calend is a shared calendar for small groups. There are no accounts, no email sign-up, and no ads. This page explains exactly what is stored and who can see it.
What we store
When you use Calend, the following is stored in our database:
- Board code: the 8-character code that identifies a shared calendar, plus when the board was created and the anonymous ID of the person who created it
- Your name and color: whatever you choose to show on your notes. They are saved with every note you pin
- Notes: the text of each note, the day it is pinned to, when it was created or last edited, and its position in the list
- An anonymous ID: a random ID generated by Firebase Authentication the first time you open Calend. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account. It is saved on each note you pin and used to limit how fast notes can be added
- A rate-limit timestamp: the time of your last pinned note, stored against your anonymous ID
We do not ask for or collect your email, phone number, location, or real identity. Please don't put sensitive personal information in your name or notes, because everyone on the board can read it.
What stays on your device
Your browser's local storage holds your theme preference, your profile (name and color), your most recent board code, a list of recent boards, and a record that you accepted these policies. Your browser also keeps the anonymous sign-in so you stay the same anonymous user. This data never leaves your device except for your name and color when you pin a note. Clearing your browser data removes it, and you will get a new anonymous ID.
Who can see your data
- Anyone with a board code can see and pin notes on that board, including the names and colors attached to them. Only share a code with people you trust
- The developer runs the Firebase project and can technically view and delete the data in it through the Firebase console. I don't read your notes and don't use them for anything, but I am able to access them
- Google processes the data as the provider of Firebase Realtime Database and Firebase Authentication. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. See the Firebase privacy information
Our database is hosted in Google's Singapore region (asia-southeast1).
Third-party services
- Firebase (Google): database and anonymous sign-in, as described above
- Google Fonts: the calendar page loads fonts from Google, which means your IP address is sent to Google when the page loads
- Web hosting: like any website, the server that delivers Calend's pages may keep standard technical logs such as IP address and browser type
Calend does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, and it does not sell or share your data.
Keeping and deleting your data
- You can edit or delete your own notes at any time
- The person who created a board can delete the whole board, which permanently removes the board and every note on it for everyone
- Boards and notes are otherwise kept until they are deleted, or until Calend is shut down
- You can clear your recent boards, profile, and anonymous ID by clearing your browser's site data
- If you want something removed and can't do it yourself, email me with the board code and I'll delete it
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date will change, and you may be asked to accept it again. Check back occasionally.
